Happy 1st Birthday to the NEDIC Blog

NEDIC BLOG 1 Year Anniversary

One year ago NEDIC staff started this blog as a way of engaging the community to share their thoughts and experiences around eating disorders. Initially a tool to raise awareness, the contributing bloggers have shaped this blog into a forum that gives us deep, personal ideas to think about and explore within ourselves and in the context of our daily lives.

“We all seemed to have stories of how we had experienced someone commenting on how much we were eating, how little we were eating, or just what we were eating. How much longer should we “laugh” it off before we stand up for ourselves? Whether you’re in school, work full time or whatever else, the last thing you want to worry about is what someone is thinking of you. We are hard enough on ourselves, and don’t need to be under a magnifying glass.” – from The Brash BBQ.

As a tribute, this week’s blog post is to thank everyone for their contributions to this blog – to the NEDIC staff for making this blog happen, to the contributors for putting their experiences into words to share with us, and to those that visit the blog looking for or to give inspiration by commenting.

“Every media message we see takes up a little spot in the back of our memory, and sticks there like a stubborn piece of gum on the bottom of your shoe: in spite of the education and awareness we have to fight against it, it means that all too often people are judged right off the bat on appearance.” – from Do you see what I See.

In making the 1st Birthday poster, it was hard to decide which quotes of wisdom to put in the poster and the space was just too limited to feature them all. Instead, we encourage everyone – whether you’re new to the NEDIC blog, or have been ‘round the block’ before – to read, or perhaps even re-read the NEDIC blog and blogs in the bigger blogosphere, to discover an inspiring moment and to share it with us in the comments below.

Here’s to another year of community, to blogging, and to NEDIC.

Thank you all, again, for a wonderful year!
